VIDEO: MD Anderson holds inaugural Cancer Moonshot Summit event
Vice President Joe Biden led the first-ever Cancer Moonshot Summit Wednesday, featuring over 260 events that took place at sites in all 50 states, including The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, as well as locations in Guam, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Biden, who delivered remarks from Howard University in Washington, D.C., was charged during President Obama’s final State of the Union address with heading the task force of a new national effort to eliminate cancer.
The Summit brought together patients and survivors; researchers; physicians and other health care workers; advocates; philanthropists; and data and tech experts to brainstorm ways to double the rate of progress against cancer over the next five years.
The event held at MD Anderson, which Biden specifically referenced as “an incredible organization,” included a panel discussion moderated by MD Anderson President Ronald DePinho, M.D., featuring the following contributors:

- Sarah Davis, state representative, Texas House of Representatives
- Patrick Hwu, M.D., division head, Cancer Medicine
- J. Leonard Lichtenfeld, M.D., deputy chief medical officer, American Cancer Society
