The TMC Funding Program in Collaborative Health Policy Research

In its pursuit of better, more effective health policy, the TMC Health Policy Institute will continue its funding program for 2017 to support TMC collaborations devoted to policy impact through research. The Institute will award $750,000 in Dec. 2016 for innovative, one-year projects. Following a letter of intent, due June 15, 2016, applications will be accepted online by Sept. 30, 2016.

Eligibility 
Applications, participation and funding are strictly limited to Texas Medical Center member organizations.

Award Criteria 
• New, significant collaboration among 3 or more TMC member organizations.
• Innovative, 12-month project.
• Assurance of impact on public policy at the state or federal level in 3-5 years.
• Explicit link to health.
• Financially prudent budget.

Letter of Intent 
A letter of intent is required and must include: a brief description of the research and its connection to the 5award criteria listed above, a list of intended collaborators, and estimated budget total for each member organization.

Those intending to revise an unsuccessful proposal submitted in 2015 should indicate where revisions will be made.

Each collaborator’s Development/Philanthropy Office should be copied on the e-mail.

Funding 
A total of $750,000 will be awarded for projects that can demonstrate significant policy impact. Pilot projects intended to support competitive applications for national funders are welcome.

We expect proposals in the range of $100,000 to $250,000 with compelling justification.

Each collaborating TMC organization will be funded separately through a gift arrangement with their respective Development/Philanthropy/Donor Office.

No indirect costs will be covered.

Time Line 
June 15, 2016 – Letter of Intent due.

September 1 to September 30, 2016 – Apply on-line.

October 1 to November 15, 2016 – External review process.

December 15, 2016 – Funds available.
