TMC Hosts Tailgate to Kick Off Super Bowl LI Festivities

Super Bowl LI celebrations have officially kicked off in Houston and the Texas Medical Center and all 56 of its member institutions are leading the charge. As an Founding Sponsor of the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee, the Texas Medical Center held a tailgate to commemorate the countdown to the big game.

Hundreds of doctors, nurses, medical students and TMC employees flocked to the commons building to enjoy hot dogs, burgers, music and dancing.

Over the next year, the medical center will be heavily involved in preparing for Super Bowl LI and making Houston the best host it can be for everyone coming to enjoy the game.

“Starting today, we are on an international stage to show the world what Houston is all about,” said Brew McKenna, chief of staff for the Texas Medical Center. “We have an opportunity to tell the stories of the work that is being done by all 56 of our member institutions and to be a good neighbor in the city of Houston.”

This is the first of many events that the Texas Medical Center will be holding in honor of the big game over the next year.

“Today is day one of our involvement and I am hopeful that we will have more events surrounding the NFL Salute to Service to honor all of the veterans we have serving in the medical center and also an event to celebrate breast cancer awareness,” McKenna said.
