A Conversation Between CEOs & Deans and Health Policy Grant Winners

1 Minute Read

The Texas Medical Center’s (TMC) Health Policy Institue awarded $750,000 through a new grant program aimed at promoting collaboration between TMC institutions, shaping health policy, and improving the lives of Texans. To launch the grant program’s inaugural year, TMC is hosting an event for students, faculty, doctors, nurses, and other members of the health care and academic community to learn more about the projects and the Health Policy Institute. The event is open to the public.

Topics:

The program required those seeking grants to form teams that included investigators, who they have never worked with before, from multiple TMC member organizations. The $750,000 in inaugural awards support four one-year projects on the following topics:

  • Mobile health clinics
  • Refugee health care
  • Freestanding emergency departments
  • Hospital readmissions

Who:

Four principal investigators will present their research designs and participate in a panel discussion with esteemed leaders from TMC institutions:

  • Robert C. Robbins, MD, President and CEO, Texas Medical Center
  • Ronald A. DePinho, MD, President, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
  • Paul Klotman, M.D., President, CEO, and Executive Dean, Baylor College of Medicine
  • Eric Boerwinkle, Ph.D., Dean, UT School of Public Health

Moderators will be the Health Policy Institute’s Director, Arthur (Tim) Garson, Jr., MD, MPH and Associate Director Stephen H. Linder, Ph.D.

What:

Most presentations of grants occur after the work has been completed, but this is a unique approach where researchers and experts will vigorously discuss work just as it is beginning, helping shape the direction. The presenters will return for analysis at the completion of their projects as well.

Cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served after the discussion.
